It isn’t quite spring yet here in the frozen north, but you can smell it on the breeze. The temperatures are slightly above freezing, the wind has lost its frosty bite. More of the locals are venturing out, still bundled against the cold, soaking up every moment of sun.
Yesterday was Earth Day, and I’ve very much enjoyed reading all the articles and blog posts about the many ways people observed and celebrated the day. I find it interesting that so many view the Earth as something to consider on the cusp of our lives: recycle, plant a tree, turn off the lights in empty rooms.
While these are all good practices, I think we should remember that we are a part of the Earth, and it is a part of us. Maintaining the attitude that we are a small part of a large system reminds us how important it is to do our part.
April is also National Poetry Month, and I’ve been filling my days with such beautiful words. Here is a lovely, fitting poem.
There Is Another Sky
There is another sky,
Ever serene and fair,
And there is another sunshine,
Though it be darkness there;
Never mind faded forests, Austin,
Never mind silent fields –
Here is a little forest,
Whose leaf is ever green;
Here is a brighter garden,
Where not a frost has been;
In its unfading flowers
I hear the bright bee hum:
Prithee, my brother,
Into my garden come!
– Emily Dickinson
My greatest joy in life is combining the two things I find most beautiful: The written word and the human body.
Simple steps to uninhibited reading:
- Choose a book.
- Find a quiet place, free of distractions.
- Remove your clothing, as much of it as you desire, or is allowed by law.
- Bask in the freedom of getting into a good story and out of your clothes.
Sometimes I like to lounge on my back deck in my undies to read. Topless is even better. And when I have enough privacy I’ll go completely nude.
Unfortunately, the place I live does not allow women to go topless in public, even though men get to enjoy this freedom. Hopefully that will change some day. I think our bodies are at their most beautiful uncovered. Like good books they should be uncensored.
I’m hoping to share with you my experiences and adventures reading in the altogether. I will tell you about the books I’m reading. My taste is eclectic and I enjoy everything from horror to romance. I will also be reading (or re-reading) some of the classics. If you have any recommendations, feel free to pass them along.
I will also tell you about the places where I enjoy my reading time. From quiet little corners of my house, to the outdoor places where I can sneak away to let the wind ruffle my pages and the sun warm my bare skin. These places are as much a part of the experience as the stories I read.
Of course there will be photos, otherwise how would you know that I’m reading in the nude? Most of them I will take myself, but I hope to have some company now and then to share this experience.
